A review of microstructure phenomena during manufacture of polycrystalline Ni-based superalloys

چکیده
The effects of manufacturing conditions on the microstructure evolution Ni-based superalloys are poorly understood, and interchangeable terminology to describe some phenomena is inconsistent. This critical review aimed address these issues through discussion seven that occur during thermomechanical processing safety-critical components used in jet engines. Each phenomenon outlined with reference grain nucleation growth mechanisms, as well under which they observed. where each dominates visualised a series contour plots. Through this graphical representation, gaps understanding were identified accompanied by recommendations for areas further study.

متن کاملMODELLING THE MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND BEHAVIOUR OF Ni-BASED SUPERALLOYS
At the last two Superalloy meetings at Seven Springs, work on the development of thermodynamic modelling tools for application to multi-component Ni-based superalloys has been presented. Such modelling has become quite widespread, providing significant benefit. However, its applicability often falls short from directly providing the information that is actually required and, by itself, cannot b...
متن کاملMicrostructure and 3-d Effects in Fretting Fatigue of Ti Alloys and Ni-base Superalloys
Damage and plastic deformation accumulation in fretting fatigue occurs within a depth of a few crystallographic grains. Therefore, more accurate assumptions concerning length scale, damage volume, and the material model are needed to establish a more solid physical foundation necessary for next generation fretting fatigue damage prediction. Major thrusts include: (1) development and implementat...
متن کاملPhyscial Metallurgy and Microstructure of Superalloys
When significant resistance to loading under static, fatigue and creep conditions is required, the superalloys have emerged as the materials of choice for high temperature applications. This is particularly true when operating temperatures are beyond about 800C. This is the case for gas turbines used for (i) jet propulsion, e.g. the 100,000 lb thrust engines used for powering large two-engined ...
